Tanya, Dot, Maria and Georgia -- Oxfam Trail walkers 2007
The course took us around the northern shores of Taupo-nui-a-Tia, New Zealand's largest lake, through farmland, forest and a geothermal reserve, crossing the mighty Waikato river twice at Huka Falls, and affording wonderful views of the lake and mountains of the Central Plateau. We walked through two dawns, one very long day, a cold dark night and a spectacular moon-rise in the wee hours of Sunday.
Elated and weary, we celebrated the end in style, dressed for the yellow brick road and flying our crafty banner between two walking poles.
28 hours later...
The support team (we had so many supporters we had to divide them into two shifts) competed throughout to provide the best support imagineable. It was a tough decision, but no amount of massage, hot soups, pancakes, curries and coddling could sway the final result: a tie for first equal between Red and Blue shifts. We cannot thank our supporters enough for their dedication to our welfare!
Together we've raised over $5,000 for Oxfam's campaign to "Make Poverty History" – a result we are terrifically proud of! So, thank you to all those who have donated already. If you would like to donate it's not too late to do so via our team page: Team website
