Highlights

Give context to your catalogue content! Using Vernon Browser your institution will be able to configure any number of Highlights selections to provide pathways through the collection. For example, you could set up a Curator′s Tour of the collection, or a Local Landmarks tour taking in public artworks and collected images of local buildings, sacred spaces etc.

Simple Search

Users perform a Simple Search by entering a keyword in the Simple search box. As an example, the user types in "cat" and Vernon Browser searches for all occurrences of the word in all of the indices so the results of the search might include a work with the title Black Cat at Night, a vase in the shape of a cat, several plates from the ′Cat Plate′ series of domestic-ware as well as the original album cover design for an album by Cat Stevens. This is analogous with the way the All Text index in Vernon works.

Advanced Search

In Vernon Browser you configure an Advanced Search screen to match each type of collection object. You can identify any number of Sub-collections to export into the Browser, i.e. items grouped into special interest areas such as country of origin (Australian Art), type of object (Sculpture) or by named collections within your collection. If such groupings are available to search then the list of collections will be offered along with the option to search over all collections whenever a user elects to perform an Advanced Search. As soon as the user selects a collection, Vernon Browser presents the Advanced Search screen. The screen allows users to use Boolean operators to search on selected indexes. Each of the Boolean operator boxes to the right of each index box also has a down arrow, offering the other choices of OR, NOT as well as AND.

Results Views

Users can choose exactly how they want to view search results.

Detail View

This view displays one record from the list of search results at a time. Like each of the Views in the Browser, you decide which fields of information to include in the view.

Label View

This view displays a thumbnail image and descriptive text about a record. All views are configurable to suit the catalogue objects.

Lightbox View

This view enables users to view images for several of the records found in the search at once. Users navigate back and forth through the entire list of images using the directional arrows in the toolbar.

List View

This view enables users to browse a list of records found in their search. From here they can switch to Detail, Label or Lightbox view for more information on the listed records.

User Shortlists

Users may create thier own shortlist: a place to keep a separate list of results that are interesting or relevant to them. This list is maintained throughout the current session, regardless of other searches made. Shortlists may be viewed in any of the different Results Views, and may be printed (if this is allowed).
