Imaging and Multimedia

Multimedia facilities are fully integrated in Vernon CMS at no extra cost. Any number of images, sound files and motion videos can be associated with any record in any file - object, person, condition report, treatment, loan, location, classification, etc, and the same multimedia file can be associated with any number of related records. The images used in Vernon can be captured by any method (digital camera, video frame grabber, scanner) and edited using industry standard image editing tools such as PhotoShop. They are neither proprietary to - nor embedded in - Vernon, but are simply files stored in directories which Vernon CMS references to use them. This means the same images can be used by other applications such as word processors and desktop publishers.

The thumbnail version of the image will automatically appear alongside the data, unless there is no room in the data entry window, in which case it may be viewed with the click of a button.

If there is more than one image you can scroll through them. A double click on the thumbnail image allows you to see it full screen. Then you can:

  • enlarge or reduce the size and pan the details of an image which has been enlarged beyond screen size
  • show technical details (filename, dimensions, image size, file size, format. compression, bit depth)
  • rotate the image through 360′ in 90′ increments, and view it in reverse (mirror-image)
  • view a browse list of records as images with associated text in a ′light box′ screen. Here you can refine the selection by deleting and re-sequencing images, and return with this browse list to your screen or to the ListManager

Digital sound and motion video can be played in a similar manner to images.

Vernon CMS supports most image formats, including: BMP, GIF, PCX, TIFF, DXF, EPSF, FlashPix, WMF, Targa, IMG, JPEG, WPG, PCD, PNG. Most sites use JPG. The storage required depends on resolution but 150 KB is usually adequate for a colour adequate for identification.

Vernon CMS includes integrated multimedia facilities for sound and full motion video (AVI, MID, WAV and MPEG). There is a tool in Vernon CMS which automatically creates the Photo/AV records for images added to the image/sound/video directories.
