Organisations For Museums
Professional bodies exist around the world to foster the museums community and provide guidance and assistance on in all areas of the museum workplace. Many of these organisations are specific to a particular region or country.

Data Standards
National and International Standards have developed for how data is recorded and transferred. Existing standards cover both the overall structure (in terms of how the cataloguing information can be broken into individual elements) and guidelines for the style and formatting of individual fields of information.

Vocabularies
Authority lists (also known as vocabularies, thesauri, pick lists or term lists) are carefully constructed lists of terminology that are used in cataloguing to ensure consistency. Vernon Systems has worked with a number of different authority lists which can be used in Vernon.
